WebVR for Remote Collaboration

M.Sc. thesis investigating the application of WebVR to remote collaboration

The thesis Applying Virtual Reality and Web Technologies to a Remote Collaboration Application (2017, in Finnish) is my Master's thesis for the degree of Master of Science in Computer Science at the University of Helsinki. The thesis investigates the organization of work in agile software development and how this relates to remote work. Supporting remote work in the context of agile development is examined by developing a web-based virtual reality construction, which focuses on enabling a typical agile meeting in a remote work context.

The construction, VR deVRoom is a networked WebVR prototype application for supporting remote collaboration within agile software development. It presents a virtual room with a Kanban-style board that the users can manipulate together. The prototype uses WebRTC for communication and the VR environment is built on top of A-Frame.

The source code for VR deVRoom can be found from GitHub. Similarly, the associated signaling server is available on GitHub.
